It’s December 1939, a few months after the outbreak of World War II in Europe. Christmas in Atlanta has taken a backseat to the premiere of Gone with the Wind. On the tony side of town, the Freitag family is preparing for Ballyhoo, a kind of coming out party for upper middle-class Jewish society in the city. Alfred Uhry's The Last Night of Ballyhoo, which won the 1997 Tony Award for best play, gently uses humor to explore identity and prejudice. Other works by Uhry include Driving Miss Daisy, Parade, and The Robber Bridegroom.
