KIDS' NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM featuring Soap Box Derby Racers First Friday, February 3 5:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. Lynchburg Museum 901 Court Street Lynchburg, VA. ~ on the Trolley route ~ FREE ADMISSION
As part of “First Friday,” the Lynchburg Museum, located at 901Court Street, will be open free of charge on Friday, February 3 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Museum is on the Trolley route that connects participating attractions. In 1933, Dayton, Ohio was the scene of the first Soap Box Derby. Cars were made from orange crates, scrap wood, and tin and powered by gravity. The races immediately became popular across the country with Chevrolet as a sponsor. Bedford Avenue in Lynchburg was the setting for many
local races, and the Lynchburg Museum will be displaying two cars from the
collection - one sponsored by the News and Advance and
the other by Falwell Fast Freight. Terrell Griffin, Penny Owen, and Vince
Desmond will be on hand to share memories of the Lynchburg Derbies in the
