Into the Woods weaves the ironic humor found in Shrek and The Princess Bride with more sober deceptions, swindles and curses that are part of the enchanted world where even fantastical choices have consequences. In their quest to find “happily ever after,” the main characters from the stories of "Cinderella," "Rapunzel," "Jack and the Beanstalk," and "Little Red Riding Hood,"are interweaved with an original story about a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child. Each character has a secret desire or mission, and must go into the woods to achieve it. Act II, however, deals with the consequences that traditional fairy tales conveniently ignore. All the characters must deal with what happens AFTER "happily ever after". As they face a genuine threat to their community, they realize that all actions have consequences, and their lives are inescapably interdependent, but also that that interdependence is their greatest strength.
[Advisory: even though this a "fairy tale" musical, young children (under 5) might find it frightening.]
