CLIMBING THE MOUNTAIN-TOP WHEN THERE IS NOWHERE LEFT TO WALK brilliantly affirms the pride, evolution and spirit of the African-American lineage while surveying the generational effects of slavery, and the legacy of the struggle which exist in the black communities today.

CLIMBING THE MOUNTAIN-TOP… is a four act play that spans from post-slavery to present day generations, and the cause and effect of cultural mindsets which shape mainstream social stereotypes.  Thru it we can recognize how black history is constructed by the hopes and aspirations of each era.

In CLIMBING THE MOUNTAIN-TOP… we meet four characters who identify with four separate movements that repeatedly altered the direction of the black existence.  A free slave identifying with freedom, a young male embarking on education, a militant soldier’s audacity to make a statement, and a Republican Judge with an opinionated view of his own, make up the family WHEN THERE IS NOWHERE LEFT TO WALK.

Inspired by his research and conversations with African-Americans from various periods in history, Dee Brown interprets the benefits that each generation obtained from the sacrifices of the ones before them, yet accompanied with a superiority complex with each character saying “WE CAN’T AFFORD TO BE LIKE THEM NO MORE!”  Brown celebrates their lives, their joys, fears and sorrows, their courage and bravery, along with their visions for the future.
