On Friday, May 22, Oakwood Country Club presents "Two For The Road: Songs of Summer," an easy, breezy program of jazz, theatre and pop standards old and new. Veteran New Yorker and Lynchburg native Perry Payne Millner, accompanied by her long-time music director Michael Rice, will perform a lighthearted and eclectic program including songs by Rodgers and Hammerstein, A.C. Jobim; southerners Trisha Yearwood, Michael Rice and Mike Craver; Ethel Waters, Mancini, Sting and Pink.
Perry was for decades a New York singer, actress, producer and businesswoman. Her performance in Keith Thompson's Kooky Tunes (off-Bro! adway) led InTheatre Magazine and Show Business Weekly to name her one of the top ten funniest performers in New York cabaret. Her holiday novelty single, Santa Claus Won't Get Lit Up (At the Trailer Park Gate This Year), written with Michael Rice, was featured in Billboard Magazine as a Top Ten Holiday Song for multiple years.
You won't want to miss this unique kickoff to the summer of 2015!
Open to the public.
